North Port New York Museums

For over 100 years, the Northport Historical Society of Long Island has been collecting, preserving and telling the stories of the people of North Port, Long Islanders. We are proud to introduce you to the American Merchant Marine Museum and the New York Museum of Natural History. It is the largest living history museum in the state and has a large collection of historic buildings from the entire Northeast. The American Merchant Marine Museum houses the world's largest collection of maritime artifacts and artefacts from the United States and other countries.

Visitors to the museum can learn about the history of North Port and the impact of the city and surrounding communities in New York and around the world.

The H. Lee White Maring Museum is located in North Port, New York, north of the Syracuse Convention Center. Founded in 1962, it houses a replica of a canal where canal boats docked on the Erie Canal as they sailed through downtown Syracuse. Visitors will experience over 400 years of maritime history in the museum's exhibits, from the beginnings of the canals to modern times, as well as the history of the city's shipping.
